Government Government Department Adopts Two for the Price of One Records and Collaboration Tool
The United Kingdom (U.K.) government’s Department for Environment, Food, and Rural Affairs (Defra) discharges its responsibilities through 3,000 core employees, dispersed throughout the country, who collaborate with a range of outside experts and stakeholders. Defra wanted a combined electronic document and records management (EDRM) system, and a tool set for 10,000 people to improve collaboration and comply with the government’s modernising agenda for e-government services. Defra chose Microsoft® Office SharePoint® Server 2007 to fulfil all three objectives with a standardised solution. Users are now creating records as part of their everyday work due to the automated workflows, without any extra burden. The department hopes to make significant cost savings by adopting a single system for records management and collaboration.
E-Service Vehicle Registration Certificate Process Cut from 15 Days to Three Days
The Dutch government’s Department of Road Transport (RDW) aims to bring seamless, electronic services to citizens and businesses, and in 2007 won Computable Magazine’s Innovation Award. With the help of Microsoft® Services, the RDW built an electronic services framework using Microsoft Commerce Server 2007. Using this, it developed e-services, which citizens and businesses can access through a Microsoft Office SharePoint® Server 2007 portal. Available 24 hours a day, the portal includes an online application facility for replacement vehicle registration certificates. In just four months, 45 per cent of applicants have started to use the e-service, which helps ensure new documents are issued to citizens in just three days instead of 15 days.
Ohio Agency Gains Foundation for Information Management with Collaboration Solution
Claims managers at the Ohio Bureau of Workers’ Compensation (BWC) often spent too much time looking for up-to-date policies and procedures in order to serve injured workers. Finding, using, and sharing information was a challenge throughout the agency—one that extended to its extranet and public Web sites. To boost enterprise content management, collaboration, and enterprise search, the bureau built a new intranet using Microsoft® Office SharePoint® Server 2007. Centralized document libraries, role-based customization, and a fast, relevant search capability have increased productivity throughout the bureau. BWC plans to deploy the Microsoft technology to its extranet and Internet site, giving the agency economies of scale in managing its “triplenet.”
